About Blade & Block
Our Story
Solomon's craft story begins with the end of another. When he was 32, his career as a professional pianist had reached its finale. And, like most professional woodworkers, it started as a hobby and spiraled into a full-blown addiction.
The path was simple: starting with cutting boards and coasters, then cabinets and boxes, tables and desks, interior then exterior, etc. Solomon was able to switch from making gifts on the side to building a functioning business with all things wooden, winning awards and building relationships along the way.
After all the planks cut and the stock glued and sanded, Solomon knows there's no joint stronger than the relationship with the client. Furniture is personal. It is an ode to comfort and style. That is the belief that keeps Solomon sanding, that keeps him gluing and chiseling. The belief that design and execution are a collaborative journey. Our Craftsmanship
We select premium hardwoods known for their durability, natural beauty, and food-safe properties. Common woods in our boards include maple, walnut, cherry, and occasionally exotic species for accent details.
Each board goes through multiple stages of sanding to achieve a silky-smooth finish, followed by treatment with our own blend of food-safe mineral oil and beeswax to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the wood.

Sustainability
We're committed to responsible sourcing and minimizing waste. We use hardwoods from sustainable sources and repurpose offcuts whenever possible to create smaller items or decorative elements.
Our finishing products are food-safe and environmentally friendly, and our packaging uses minimal plastic to reduce our environmental footprint.
